Mining and Swimming

Well we are on day 2 of the school hols and we have been out exploring again. Sad that Paul has to work but hey, someone has to earn the bucks.

We went to Karangahake Gorge which is between Paeroa and Waihi (which also has a fab beach, saved that for another day). It is an old site used in the gold rush in 1875. It is all ruins now but the boys thought it was great. It had the River Ohinemuri running by which was beautiful and crystal clear. There were two very wobbly rope bridges and a very, very long old railway tunnel which if completed would take over an hour from one end to the other. Well, I was all for it but in the middle we heard a spooky rumbling noise and the "Brave Boys" legged it!

On the way back we stopped off at Te Aroha Spas and mineral pools and we all had a great swim.

The kids were bushed tonight. The trouble is they are already asking "what are we doing tomorrow?"
